Hypercane Gordon was a devastating Category 9 hypercane that leveled most of southern England, and caused near-catastrophic damage to the coastlines of France, Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Russia. It was initially a somewhat weak tropical storm that while slowly dying out, happened to pass over the erupting Freedom Seamount on July 4, 2012, leading to the formation of the tropical cyclone that would break nearly all major tropical cyclone records worldwide: windspeed, pressure, size, casualties, and damage.
